What currency is used in Northern Ireland?
Northern Ireland uses the pound sterling (GBP), shown by the symbol £. This is the same currency used throughout the United Kingdom and is different from the euro used in the Republic of Ireland.
Visa, Mastercard, contactless payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay are widely accepted. American Express is also accepted at The Dundrum Inn. It is still useful to carry a small amount of cash when visiting rural attractions or smaller businesses.
What is the weather like in Northern Ireland?
Northern Ireland has a mild but changeable climate. Sunshine, cloud and rain can all arrive on the same day, so it is sensible to bring a light waterproof jacket throughout the year.
Snow and prolonged freezing conditions are uncommon at lower levels. Summer can bring warm, sunny spells, particularly from May to September. UV levels can still be high on cool or cloudy days, so check the forecast and use sun protection when required.
